New District 1 Commissioner Davis Sworn into Office

New Monroe County District 1 Commissioner Lamarcus Davis officially took the oath of office on Tuesday, Jan. 5 in a brief ceremony at the Monroe County Conference Center presided over by Monroe County Probate Judge Donna Robins.

Davis was elected in November 2020 to replace former District 1 Commissioner Larry Evans after defeating the incumbent by a 58% to 42% margin.

Davis’ swearing-in ceremony was immediately followed by swearing-in ceremonies for Commission Chairman Greg Tapley and District 2 Commissioner Eddie Rowland, who were each re-elected in November for new four-year terms. It will be Tapley’s second consecutive four-year term while Rowland will be serving his first full four-year term. Rowland was elected in a special election runoff in May 2017 following the December 2016 death of then-District 2 Commissioner Jim Ham.

About 60 family members and friends of the three Commissioners attended Tuesday’s meeting to see them take their oaths, and a public reception to honor the trio was held prior to the meeting.
